【D&A Knowledge Hub】How to Remove Mold From Leather?

April 21, 2022

Entering April, it’s the turn of spring and summer. The air becomes warm and humid due to the warm and cold air mass’s interaction in this period. Leather is prone to mold and bacteria growth when exposed to high humidity. It is often easy to find white or even dark green mildew spots on the leather surface of leather jackets, leather shoes and leather handbags during this period of time if we don’t pay attention to cleaning and maintenance of leather goods. This mildew even brings an unpleasant mold smell.

How to Deal with Moldy Leather Goods?

If the moldy leather goods are spotted in time, you can follow these steps to remove molds:

  1. Wear protective gloves and a mask.
  2. Use a brush to wipe the mold on the surface of the leather goods, and use a vacuum cleaner to remove it or wipe it off with a dry towel.
  3. Use Mold Remover for cleaning. The Mold Remover is developed for leather mildew, which can easily remove mildew and effectively prevent mildew from forming again.
  4. Use Leather Cleaner to remove the residual Mold Remover on the surface.
  5. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leather from color fading.
  6. When dry, apply Leather Protector or Leather Refreshing Cream which could help to form a nourishing and protective layer for the leather.

If the Mold Remover has continued for a period of time, you will find there still little white spots on the leather surface after using Mold Remover, which means that the mildew has eroded the leather surface coating. As a result, the leather surface coating needs to be recolored.
